From the pics looks like a great bar you have there in LA. Maybe one of these days I'll make it there from NW Florida for a poker run. www.crabislandonline.com This is where we party near Destin, Florida. Join us for the www.emeraldcoastpokerrun.com in August, it's a whole week celebrating boating and partying!

Any luck getting a dependable gummi worm supply? That's a key ingredient I'd hate to see go. :( I've even traded them for some rather nice 'favors' ;).

Adam It's not that the gummi worm supply is low. They wait until the last minute to shop and of course no local store is going to carry a sufficient amount needed for a bar that sells that many wormbuckets. It's the first thing that is cut to save money.

I have been going to the prop stop for years and the weekend of the poker run i was disappointed with the worm bucket. I notice the bartenders would make them ahead time. Well our bucket was so water down it wasn't even worth drinking it. I would rather wait in line for a fresh bucket than to have a water down bucket. I have a suggestion why not mix in a large water container the construction guys use WITHOUT the ICE and the grenadine of course and have the bartenders just scoop the ice pour the pre-mix and add the grenadine and don't forget the worm FYI several people have also commented on this subject.

In regards to the inferior wbuckets, the problem has been noted and corrected. We sincerely apologize to any of our prop stoppers experiencing this. The blame falls on the management for not training our new bartenders as thoroughly as we should have. If yall ever get a product you are not happy with at the Prop Stop PLEASE bring it to our attention and we will gladly replace whatever it is. Cant stay #1 selling sh#$#ty stuff can we. Thanks Milton

I could not agree more with what you're saying Kenny. It seems everywhere we go,us "year round" boaters don't get any respect from these young dumbasses. Just because we all don't have '30ft+ Daddy's boats ,does not mean we are any lees important than them.

Thanks for the positive comment and I agree that we are all down there to have a good time but you should also show some respect as you would want others to show in return. Funny thing is this particular main instigator does not even own a boat and rides on the "shirt tails" of others and I suppose feels he had to show his worthiness to the guys he was with. I am a person that has a 30 foot boat but I do not feel that I am special or deserve special treatment. By the contrary a person of a vessel this size must exercise much more resposibilty for the passengers and people around them. With attitudes like this can you imagine how the are underway?
My intent was not to turn this into a Bitch session but I felt it had to be said and hope the right people read it and see the big picture. Who knows...the right people CAN turn this around and we ALL can have a great place to hang out and spend or money.
Thanks again.

I think that if you just ask Milton or Robin I am sure they would not mind if you stayed on boat there. If you do tie up carefully,(loose) water tends to rise and fall fast at times depending on wind direction.
Poker run on saturday, will be alot of people. Give us a shout, black boat"Farfrompuken"

I went to Pier 13 Sunday to check out Prop Stop's competition. The wormbuckets sucked major ass, not to mention how small the cups were. There was 2 DJ's there, the black guys was trying way to hard to fit in with the "river" crowd. And the most important thing was that the girls on that side of the lake wasn't nearly as fine as the ones I see every weekend at The Prop Stop!!!
Keep up the good work Milton,Robin,Bob and all the rest of the crew... There is only 1 Prop Stop and it can never be duplicated!!!!!

Yeah Brad, I saw 2 monkeys in a hollowed out tree with a weed eater runnin' from a LA Lizzard at the Amite river mouth. They were underway trying to find the "PROP STOP INN" where the HAWT CHIX and REAL FUN happens, unfortunately they were takin' on water. Howeva, I did see they were seaworthy Havin' Life Preservers and Bananas to feed their New-found Pet. Guess they turned around and went back to Pier 13.

I can remember helping Milton ice down beer in ice chests and taking them to the Prop Stop on Fri nights for the weekend blow outs. That was at least 30 years ago, and even though I moved to Texas in the early 80's, it is so great to see that the place is still going strong. Worm buckets and all! Way to go Milton!!! We have some places on Clear Lake and Lake Houston...Some kick ass places on Lake Travis in Austin, but none that compare to the Prop Stop. Cops are really bad on drinking and driving...boats and autos. Next time I come home for a visit, I'm going to try and make it out there.

My niece and I were there on Sunday, July 6, 2008 and entered the water balloon toss and needless to say some pics were taken of us topless. We really do not want those pics posted on the website or at the bar. It was something that we now regret. We both had a little too much to drink. Please do not post those pics!!!!

Ok LSUShawn - I am sure that you have done things that you regret and wish that you could take it back - and you probably have. Stop judging people and don't come off like a saint!!!! People do crazy things when they drink (and don't say that you have not)and I am sure you are one of them but just have not gotten caught while someone is standing there with a camera. Don't be jealous because you don't have a bed to lie in!!!!!!!!!!

I think they kindly and appropriately asked a favor of not putting their topless pics on the site or in the bar. I think the bar should do as they asked. At least they politely asked them!!!! I agree some what, the fact that you could hang out in your boat at the prop stop and have a good time is why people go there, Sun Buns has alot of rules like ,no radios, no food or drinks at the dock and thats one reason why when the prop stop was open , there was very few at Sun Buns, I agree it has to be controlled, but the customers need to feel comfortable. I hang at the dock with friends and still spend a small fortune at the TPS . It needs to be somewhat family friendly, and people friendly. Cant wait until it opens..

Hanging out in my boat and people watching is a big part of why I go to TPS. Everybody has done it.My group goes in and buys there wormbuckets, beer, swampburger, etc and comes back out. Being able to sit in the shade on my boat and enjoy the scenery and atmoshphere is why I have been going for 20+ years. I just wish that the Milton and his crew had done more to "control" the loud music coming from other boats. Hell you can hear what the DJ is playing all the way across the river. Trust me NOBODY cars that you spent a million $$$ on your boat's stereo, turn that shit off or go to the lake with it. Increasing the size of the dock may be one of the areas that need to be considered even though it's probably not doable according to Corps of Engineers regs.

Tell me one time you didn't get good service or a shoddy product because of poor "money management"! Tell me one time when you did not enjoy yourself at the Prop Stop. Truth is after 35 years of harder work than most of you smart asses can even imagine, raising 5 sons that went to school by boat every morning for 8 years, recovering from a devasting fire where the prop burnt down to the mud and we didn't miss one single weekend serving our public, fought the authorities for years so your kids could come on board and have a safe haven from the hot sun and drenching downpours and enjoy a fais do do every weekend with their parents instead of being left at the babysitters, put on 31 kickass firework shows for which we asked nothing but that ya'll enjoy, rescued countless stranded boaters, saved several lives, had no more than 20 fights in 35 years, have had 3 heart attacks, one stroke, and have developed diabetes as a result of being exposed to agent orange in Viet Nam, and being run over by a careless boater and having my leg practically cut off, I don't think I have a thing in the world to apologize for, nor do I feel the need to accept lies or falsehoods about MY Prop Stop. The Prop Stop was sold this winter for a tidy sum to some fine people who are being delayed opening because of beuracratic bullshit not poor money management. They will be open this summer and I hope all of you support them as well as you supported me and Robin. Now whoever dont like what I just said and you still think you know everything about MY BUSINESS you can Kiss My Old Ass. As for the rest of ya'll we love ya and we will see ya sometime this summer!!

We go out there once a week and drop about 150.00. Yes, we like to hang out around our boat and listen to our music but it is not loud. We hang out around the dock swimming off the nose of our boat. You cannot do that in Sunn Bunns, so we chose not to go there. The Prop Stop offers great entertainment and a great group of people. If you think the Prop Stop is full of disrepectful minors then leave. I don't know many minors who own 27 - 38 foot boats.

Well said Milton; I personally remember being just a chap sitting at the stop with my parents in the 80's and sneaking a "quick sip" of the top of my mother's wormbucket. Now almost 30 with a young son of my own I can't wait for the day he's sitting next to me doing the exact same thing. I really appreciate every drink, every weekend, every moment wasting time and making memories I've spent at the Stop. I think everyone who takes the time to stop in at this site has one thing in common, we all love the place. I'd just like to say thanks for making it everything it's been, can't wait for this year's opening weekend.

We plan to open on or just before Memorial Weekend. There will be a couple of changes, but one of the biggest will be YOU MUST BE 21 TO COME TO PROP STOP OR EVEN DOCK. Sorry to the families that used to go, but this was not our decision. The licensing board says NO MINORS, NO WHERE on Prop Stop
So with that we decided 21 yrs only.
So sit and simmer on that, and we will announce the only other major change in a few, as we get closer to opening.
Structural changes will be made to improve Prop stop but not till next year. We look forward to your comments and suggestions, since it is the people expecially the locals who make the Prop Stop what it is, NOT THE owners, past or present!!

I Love it!! Let the crying begin!! Also, like someone said in a previous post, nobody cares how loud your stereo can go!! I was at sunbuns yesterday and it didn't look like the- "turn your stereos off" sign was hurtin business to me! Believe me, this,(21 to party) will do wonders for the new owners in the long run.

Passed by the prop Saturday during the poker run and saw somebody working on it. With the prop not even open yet there were about 8 boats anchored out front and 2 at the docking looking like lost puppies. No doubt they will do well and since I have kids it will limit my trips there severly. When I had my kids we would dock and get swamp burgers then leave. Of course on adult days no problem. In todays letigation rich society I understand the 21 rule and don't think its going to hurt business much. Hey backstage girl, any chance on expanding the docks?

Anyone over 21 can pull up to the dock and enjoy everthing. We would love to invite every single person on the river to dock and enjoy, BUT we are a business and if you are a business owner, you know in order to stay in business, you have got to make money. And since our primary source of income in alcohol, we need customers who can drink it. If people are there on the docks who are just there to enjoy the sights and sounds, that leaves no spaces for people who come to drink. And that is not a good thing. Maybe now they can be the ones to anchor out and enjoy the sights and sounds, while the paying customers can dock and come in and buy a couple of drinks, and go back to the boat for a change of scenary, drink a couple from their boat and back inside for a couple from Prop Stop. That was the Prop Stop and that is what the Prop Stop will be again. Like I said I wish eveyone could come and enjoy this fun place, but thats the way it is.

There is an entry above from someone names "River Rat." I got an entry on my guestbook asking if it was me. I wasn't even aware of this section of Prop Stop's website. I am River Rat Rob and I didn't post the above. I'd like to go on record saying that I am very glad The Prop Stop is coming back and opening soon. Anything I can do to help, let me know. Need the dates for any special events that are being planned. I'd like to see ALL of our places on the water do well. Take care, Rob.

Will there still be a taxi service to bring people that do anchor out in and out? Why is it being kept such a secret who the new owners are? What about the paying customers that like to stay docked and sit in their boats, will we be run off?
People it's a bar room!! Yes they serve burgers and dogs but come on like she said their reason for being open is to sell alcohol. This new rule will not affect me from visiting PS at all. I can only hope that it discourages some of the "roid heads" and "Pier 13 type" that are only there to blast their music and drink their alcohol from coming.

....had another thought. I' like to say thanks to Milton for The Prop Stop. Prop Stop.."the house that Milton built. SO many good times....and pretty girls there over the years. Whow. Best to Milton and Robin. I know them, can't say that I know them really well, but was always nice to me. TO the new owners, I have a thought. I wish I had $1.00 for every time someone told me what I "need" to do or what I "ought" to do. If I had a dollar for every time I heard that, I think I could have bought The Prop Stop myself!!! :0) I am sure the new owners know what they want to do and they stepped up and got the place and will run it the way they want to run it....and that is as it should be. Thanks again Milton and I owe you a beer from that time we were at Bayview (thanks for helping me with The JAM, too!) Best of luck to The Prop Stop, a south Louisiana ORIGINAL!!!!!

Yes there will be a taxi to pick up 21yrs and over. And no if you read my entire entry I wrote previously, no PAYING CUSTOMERS will be ran off for sitting in their boat. A PAYING CUSTOMER can move from his boat to the bar as often as he or she likes.

Look, a 21 restricted Prop-Stop is better than no propstop. I don't think business will drop off much if any. I will be interested to see how they enforce the 21 year old limit as well as no brought aboard beverages. I can just see some rent-a-cop running up and down the pier checking IDs and Reciepts. Anyway, look forward to it. Hope it works out.

So, if you're under 21 will you still be able to be in a boat that is tied up at the Prop Stop? I'm waaaay over 21 but I was just wondering since I will occasionally have someone on my boat who is under 21. Can't wait for the Prop Stop to open!! I'm having worm bucket withdrawals! To the new owners I totally understand the 21 thing and hope you have the same success with the Prop Stop as Milton and Robin did. Thank you for continuing the legacy of the world famous Prop Stop! I wish the very best to the new owners as well. As it was eluded to earlier, a profitable PS with restrictions is better than none at all. PS is synonomous with river fun. And speaking of fun, just imagine a PS where you don't have to worry about saying the wrong thing around minors! I can't wait for my first bucket and burger of this season. And, yes, some more dock space would be nice. I need to get back to the bar quickly on a hot day. We should never leave our worms exposed.....top off my bucket.

21 and up is GREAT! One way to control this and make money, would be to issue wrist bands after checking id AND purchase. That way, if you don't see people with wristbands, they've got to move the boat from the dock.

Not to try to rain on your parade but the 3 fatalaties(drownings, I assume) that you speak of were not boat related. So why would you bring that up here? NEW ROADS — Three people were missing and four others were injured, some seriously, after two boats collided on False River late Saturday, said Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff Beauregard “Bud” Torres III.
Torres said four survivors were pulled out of the water with injuries and three others were missing. He said he couldn’t release names of the missing because their families had not yet been notified.
The accident occurred on the waterway near the Pointe Coupee Electric facility on False River Road in New Roads.
Torres said he had no other information about the incident as of 11 p.m. Saturday, but was communicating with officers on the scene.

Whatever river you live on, you know that there are crazy people who have no regard for the safety of others, whether they ignore the no wake signs, (like I see each and every weekend) or like the grown man in the river last weekend who was pulling a small child on a jet ski in the middle of the river and cut right in front of us, then there is the speed boats that fly past small boats in the narrow parts of the river almost turning them over with their wake. All you can do is your part. Handle your boat responsibly, as if you are passing a boat that is carring your mother or your children. When these crazies pass us, they usually give you a look, like haha or "you got a problem withm me", these people are nuts. Do your part to help, take down that boat name, take a picture. Yes there are 2 sometimes 3 boats patrolling, so help them out. They cant catch them all. No one like to hear about tragedys, but there is nothing wrong with bringing that up in a blog and making people aware, so that the next time you are in the river, maybe that will come to mind, and maybe make a difference in the way you handle that boat. When you lose someone in a boating accident, or if you go out with your family and have close call, your attitude is very different afterwards, nobody would bring it up, if it never had happened. "Rain on their parade," PLEASE! There aint a dam thing wrong with making people aware.

Thanks for pointing out the two terrible boating accidents. If anything 'good' can come from it, that would be that others might learn from it and avoid becoming the next statistic and newspaper article. Backstage Girl, well said, (as always). More River Patrol Law Enforcement, boater education and perhaps licensing, and peer pressure from other safe boaters are the only solutions that I know of that "might" help. Still, from time to time, bad things are going to happen, unfortunately.

Alcohol and driving (my .02 cents)
said...
It will take a HELL of alot of "education". LDWF will tell you that they dont have enough people to deter the drunk driving on the river system in SELA. Here is a question I have for all of you.... How many fatalities have there been in the area in the past 10 years? Any alcohol involved is too much.
Look at Miltons post earlier "and being run over by a careless boater and having my leg practically cut off" even he was a victim.
I am not saying close it down, but someone needs to do something....

I remember after last year's horrible accident when 4 young men were killed on Blind River, that was the phrase I heard more than any other...."something has to be done." While, there are a few politicians I like, I do not have much faith in elected officials to solve anything. I am not all that smart, but I have friends that are. I'd like to see intelligent conversation about details and suggestions on what could and should be done. We might not all like each other and not agree on everything, one thing I am sure of: we all want the river (and lake) safe and no one getting hurt or killed. It is absolutely horrible what is happening right now up on False River. The Lake Bash is coming up soon, Memorial Day Weekend, and some cool poker runs. Like Crazy Charlie says, "Be Boat Safe." Be careful, reminds others to do so, and consider that life jacket, AKA life preserver. I do totally agree and not trivializing what the above person posted: Something should be done, but that is a bit mentally lazy. What should be done and some 'good' answers is what I would like to hear. Lastly, I also agree W & F and our other river patrols are spread too thin. A greater law enforcement presence (as much as I dislike being stopped) is one real solution. All of the laws, rules, and ordinances don't mean thing if they are not enforced. It is fine to disagree with this, but if you do,,,,at least have an alternative suggestion as to what you think would be a better idea.

What about making it mandatory to have to take a strict boater's safety course before you're allowed to operate a boat. Or how about setting a speed limit on the water in some of our small rivers such as Tickfaw? Or how about a limit to the size of boats that can operate in some of these rivers. I witnesed a large Baja boat almost run over a kid being pulled behind a boat on a tube Saturday, because he was "plowing" water and the bow of his boat was up in the air.

Tommy, good stuff. I hear about the speed limits a lot. I think laws are only good if they are enforceable. I am NOT against speed limits, however, boats don't have accurate speedometers and law enforcement (on the water) does not have radar or laser to measure speed, so I don't know how that would work. The boat licensing thing I agree with you (and think most do, as well). I posted some of what you said and some ther of my thoughts on my guestbook, if you'd care to check it out. I don't know how to legislate boater courtesy, common sense, safety, etc. I wish I did. As our waterways become more popular and we attract more boat owners and homeowners, visitors ,etc., it can only get worse. That is where we need more people like you and others with good ideas to unite and make your voice heard. Take care, Rob.

The way I see it, if they had an opening date, I bet they would give it. I doubt they want a grand opening and keep it secret. Probably tons of stuff and issues and permits and rules and other B.S. they are going through. I am quite positive this is the first time that someone has bought and taken over a business on leased land, etc. What might have been overlooked and grandfathered in, probably is not anymore. (Just speculating). I bet if every single one of us that visits the site ask when they will open, we most probably STILL will NOT get an aswer until they know for sure. Every weekend that goes by they are spending money and losing revunue, I bet they know that and are in just as big a hurry to get rolling as we are for them to. By the way, all the bodies have been recovered on Flase River from the Saturday night boat wreck. If something like that can happen on False River (a big lake and very wide), it can very easily happen on any of our rivers, or out on the lake. Be even more caeful at night and have some good and bright lights on your boat. ....life jackets.

Hey guys, great reading and I agree with alot of what is said above, like W & F and the others are spread too thin to be everywhere they need to be. I believe one way to handle these issues is for all the boat captains to work towards being safer, like not putting people in the water to ski in places where traffic is heavy, keeping the people in your boat contained and not drinking and driving. We all can help out the authorities by calling in boat IDs that we see doing things that are unsafe. Rob would it be possible to post contact information on your page to the local W&F and PD that would be responsible for these areas or do you know if 911 would be the best option.

I don't think anyone on this board SUPPORTS drunken captaining, but whether it's being served at the prop or buying a case at the convenience store down the street and drinking it in a day on the boat drinking WILL happen on our waterways. I think a better question would be...the fatalities last weekend, hell, over the past 10 years, what percentage directly resulted from our local waterway watering holes? Half your argument holds no "water" unless we're penalizing everyone selling alcohol everywhere all the time! I do agree that the individual repercussions should be a bit more stringent, 2500 bucks in fines and legal fees to "clear up" your water DUI doesn't seem very fair when most of these boys use that "pocket change" to fill up their boats on the weekends.

Once I wrote for 5 magazines and I was going to do a story on alcohol related boating accidents in Louisiana. Contacting Wildlife and Fisheries, I discovered, statistically, that is NOT the case. I was as surprised as anyone. Most of our accidents and fatalites are NOT alcohol related.
Next: I am not all that bright, just ask the ex-wife and numerous former girlfriends, and I am (once again) speculating, but do not be a bit surprised if The Prop Stop has what is known as a "soft start." Most places do this. It is where they open and really don't spread the word, just to get things going and work out all the kinks. Do you know how they will be crucified if they open and it is busy and people wait and it things do not go perfect. Again, I do not know if they are going to do this, but don't be surprised (or offended) if this happens. It is a way to get geared up and provide the best service possible once they officially open.
Last: drinking and boating. Most people relate going out on their boat as THEIR recreational time, just as grilling, watching the super bowl with friends, etc. As with other fun times, people feel they can do what they want to and have fun. It is a mindset, a mentality, a train of thought that needs to change.
Lastly, Lousiana is ranked way down the list on # of boats registered in the state nationwide (no where close to #1, which was Michigan, of all places. Regrettablt, ranked much higher in # of boating accidents and fatalities for # of boats per capita, accidents per # of boats ,etc. Don't take what I say as gospel, do some checking for yourself.

A friend to my website, Shane, said he has posted a Facebook page for The Prop Stop. Very cool. He also started a Facebook page for The Firemen;s Poker Run. People are REALLY getting behind this poker run and it is getting bigger every year. Well, they did have help from the best: Crazy Charlie is a big supporter of them and the local police. I remember the first year Charlie helped them, Springfield Fire Dept volunteers were having to buy bandages and supplies with their own money, they were down that far. They have came a long ay and got a ways to go. Springfield (District 2) has been a big help to me with my parties on the lake and I hope you remember to help them out, too.

You don't speak with much intelligence. I guess it is always go fast boats that collide with other boats. I also assume everyone driving a go fast boat is an asshole. I think your upset because you cannot afford one.

A lot of people do not like power boats. I do. When the above refers to "go fast" baots, I assume they mean power boats. This type of boat was not involved in any of our fatalities. In fact, more people die in tiller controlled boats than any other. Still, sometimes I wonder why bass boats are built to go as fast as they do, just to catch a fish. Always people start yelling for more laws, tighter laws, banning this, and doing that, etc., Without a greater law enforcement presence on the water and enforcing the laws that are already on the books, anything else is just rhetoric and theatrics.

There's some good reading over here. Like everyone else said, I'm sure the owners of Prop Stop are as anxious to be open as you are. Completely off subject, but I ran the amite/diversion at night a few weekends ago to visit a few of the local bars. I passed 3 to 4 boats on the water, up on plane, with no lights on. A couple of them snuck up on me, even with a full moon it was still hard to see them. Please get lights on your boat before you travel at night, not only is it dangerous for you but for other boaters on the waterway as well!

The above post is being a bit shy, they also have a cool website and a great forum section, www.bayouboaters.com. Bright lights on boats when running at night (waering life jackets) makes good sense. (and slowing down a bit, too!) If I HAVE to hit something, I'd rather it be as slow as possible.

replied to Dave...
Not every go fast boat owners are assholes. It isn’t just the power boats that act crazy or drive too fast. Why not make a point of how you, as a power boat owner try to be careful and show courtesy when a small boat is in your wake, and maybe other power boat owners will think about that too and follow suit with the responsible power boat drivers. When you say he is just jealous because he can’t afford one, you sound as stupid as him. And its power boat owners who have that mentality, that do usually drive like a nut! You both sound like little bitches.

Crazy Charlie explained it to me best. Most of the really big power boats are extremely careful. The boat costs a lot of money and usually these people have some money. They don't want to be in a wreck and sued. They try hard to avoid the liability of a lawsuit. The person posting above was doing great and making very valid points ....and then you ruined it all by calling both of them "bitches." {Just kidding}. Our waterways are for everybody and on the water (and off), we are all equal, no matter how much or how little we may be blessed with. That's what I think.

You don't want togo there. Tust me.
Look at the statistics and the typesof boats that are typically involved in the fatalities. It is usually a 26'
or larger boat colliding with a smaller (22' or less).
As far as the "asshole" comment. I think you need to re read my original post.
The older salts who enjoy their boats usually show the respect in idle zones and for the smaller boats.
Its the young 30 something crowd trying to show off who cause the damage to others property.
Just look at the wake zone violations.
Milton will tell you...
Its the no wake zone speeders that kept him up at night.
I need a burger.

I guess it depends on what you call "a lot." There will be a few boats out there, I predict. (More than a 100 and less than a 1,000). If its pretty weather, I predict it will be the second biggest Bash ever, with June 3, 2006 having been the biggest. Be safe. Also, agreat article in The Advocate on Boater Safety and new laws. An excellent read, made a lot of great points. They got it right.

People , I dont think what type or what size boat you drive makes boating any safer or more dangerous, size is irrelevent. People fishing in the narrow rivers should stay to one side, not in the middle especially in areas where the river turns, Skiers should stay in the wide portions of the river or to one side, Go-Fast boats should cruise at a moderate speed and not open up until they hit open water , thats what those types of boats are made for. everyone should respect the wake zones, the boaters on the water are the same people you drive next to on the interstate, there is no telling what the guy in front of you is going to do next, we all know that boats dont have brakes and they dont swerve to well neither, its almost like driving a motorcylcle. I suggest we all do our thing be CAREFUL , and have a good time. Cheers! see ya at the Bash!

Good stuff. A lot of what you said is {either} already law, or in common sense. If more people thought like you (and many others), our waters would be a much safer (and fun) place to play. Unfortunately, not nearly enough people think like us. I have a link up on my site from the article in todays Advocate about boater safety / possible new boating laws. I liked this article, the only thing I disagree with is they are back to a possible speed limit at night. I hear that a lot and I still maintain speed limits serve no pupose, if for no other reason than boats don't have accurate speedometers and law enforcement has no way to measure speed on the water. There are laws careless / wreckless operation that law enforcement can use. I AM against writing laws that can't / won't be enforced. Wuz up, see you at the Bash.

Hey Mikey... Its al over WBRZ
SPRINGFIELD — Two women were injured when they and at least one other person were ejected from a boat Sunday night on Blood River and the empty boat then circled back and ran over the women, wildlife authorities said Monday.
The 16-foot motorized boat took on water in a curve on the river in southeastern Livingston Parish around 9 p.m. Sunday, said Lt. Cullen Sellers, enforcement agent with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
With the water rushing into the aluminum boat, it veered off in one direction, throwing all the passengers, and then circled back over them, Sellers said.
The incident happened just south of Blood River Landing and about a half-mile north of La. 22, which crosses near the confluence of the Blood and Tickfaw rivers.
Sellers said the injuries are not serious at this time. He did not immediately have the boat passengers’ names or ages or a precise count of many people were in the boat.

Louisiana should take a page from Mississippi's law. Anyone born after 1980 must take a boater safty course before they can operate a motor boat, jet ski etc. They must carry the certificate ( card) with them while on the water. This will eventually educate young folks and start the next generation of smart boaters, wont do much for the idiots that are grandfathered in, but the future will certainly be better. A lot has to do with the way their parents taught them or did'nt teach them, common courtesy and common sense should be automatic, but we know thats a streach. The same guy that cuts you off on the highway is the same one that drowns you with his wake.

Good laws, whether they originate in Mississippi (where I am also from, and grew up on the river), Florida, California, Michigan, or wherever they have lots of boaters are a great idea. Mandsafe boater couse for all, more law enforcement, and common sense laws.

Ms. law vs La. law is not the issue and certainly does not have to have the same language. Laws will never replace common sense. Mandate, possibly, but no one should be able to register a boat without passing a boater safety course. How easy is that? Will it stop people from speeding around blind turns and running into a boat thats anchored, or head on into some dummy headed in the opposite direction, or speeding down a bayou in the dark of night and running head on under a barge and killing eveyone on board? Probably not, but it may educate some and save someones life. By the way Mississippi has a zero % tolerence for alcohol while operating any type of watercraft, you get a DUI and a ride in a police car.

Great reply. The more people we get on our waterways, admittedly and regrettably, the bigger the possibility for tragic accidents. I am not all that smart and do not have all of the answers. People are going to behave badly at times, no matter what. You make some great points and do it well. The thing that drives me crazy is the same old "somebody ought to do something" when something really bad happens. I am from Clarke County, MS which is STILL a dry county. Wildlife and Fisheries sees boats at the boat launch and they come sneaking up trying to see if you have a beer. That really sucks and I agree, we should not be that way. I enjoy the dialect and would like to see more of it. Thanks.

And i agree with you that LA shouldnt be like MS also, I drove across two counties to go to work every day, one wet, and one dry(in which i lived in). Every weekend while on my way home i was stopped, pulled out of the vehicle by police and asked to give a breathalizer test all because i was coming from a wet county.NOT fun at all, i have yet to drive through a road block in LA and i hope it stays that way.......and by the Sardis and Grenada, MS is also high for its boat accidents because of the Thunder on Water show....so no reason to go praising MS huh?

No, I am STILL going to praise my homestate. They haven't had the # of fatalities we have already had this year. I am not saying it is better than Louisiana. Neither is Alabama, where I also get e-mails with horror stories. Still, you are from way up north Mississippi, damn near a Yankee, by my account. I remember the first time I saw Elvis in concert in Memphis (1974). I thought all those people talked with a strange Northern accent. I like the posts on Prop Stop's website. Some very astute people. Let's just all be safe and not hurt ourselves....or anyone else. That would be good.

Now, now, now. I posted way up earlier about why The Prop Stop is not open. Scroll up. About Mississippi, I agree. I like my original homestate, and consdier Lousiana my adopted homestate. The food, the people, the music, the lifestyle, the pretty girls..... it is all very special and unique. ...by the way, I jumped the fence at Graceland to say hello to Elvis when he did his 5 sold out concerts at Mid-South Coliseum in '74. His dumb ass hick bodyguards were not nice at all. Last, The Prop Stop will open as soon as they can. They wanted The Royal Purple, they want to make money. It is not easy taking a place over and getting it all done. From permits, to politics, to the EPA, and more; it is a lot. Be patient. Negative post do not help and will not cause them to open any quicker.

Boo-Hoo, very cool. I do hope when they open people will cut them some slack. I am sure there will be more than a few kinks to work out before everything is up and running smoothly. Learning experience, growing pains, and all that. Just remember what a void it would be if there was NO Prop Stop at all. I appreciate the new owners stepping up and taking all this on. Following Milton, Robin, and the gang with decades of experience, memories and good times is no easy task. I wouldn't want to do it. I am sure expectations will be quite high. ....see. I told you they have feelings. Most of our places on the water make most of their money the 12 weeks of summer. They want (and need) your business. They are hurt more than a lot of us know even on a rainy yucky weekend, let alone when we have floods and hurricanes that mess everything up for a long period of time. AGAIN, THE NEW PROP STOP PEOPLE ARE NOT SPENDING ALL THAT MONEY AND EFFORT TO KEEP THEIR DOORS CLOSED AND LOSE HUGE POKER RUNS. DUH!!!!!! I don't get a lot of participation on my message board and guestbook. A LOT of people read it, but rarely post. I am kind of glad for that sometimes. I hate to get as upset as Backstage Girl. As for me, I look forward to it when they are open and I will be there and be glad to be there.

If they put a banner up, I'd belive it, unless something unforseen happens (and keep in mind that it could). They are probablt not shooting for a grand opening, until they get up to speed and everyobdy knows their duties, well stocked, staffed with good people, everything works and running smoothly. Good to see so many old Prop Stoppers at Swampwaters yesterday. I have really missed ya'll! Sorry to hear about your experiences at the New Prop Stop and I wish I could influence or advise the new owners but Milton and I were told in no uncertain terms our help was not needed or desired. All I can say is leave your opinions or advise about what you like or do not like about the New Prop Stop on their page. The new owners could certainly benefit from your input!

Went to prop stop for the first time in years, had a great time with wife and friends, but when we discovered my wife's bag had been stolen from my boat, I can say will not go back with all the added guys working the dock. There were only a few boats there Sat.(more workers than customers) How could this happen? Won't be back!!!~!!!

I have been going to the prop for years and never had anything stolen out of my boat. That being said get real! Those Dock Hands don't know who belongs in what boat and don't care. Boating is courtesy and I am shocked as you are to hear about the theft. Give it another chance and keep purses etc out of sight.

Understand the Propstop is under new management. Who and when do they start in 2010? Do they have a website? Do they have a clue?

First weekend after Easter is opening weekend, they have a page, but it's on Facebook. Beginning of last year was a little rough, but they're getting it down....and they take care of you. Went almost every weekend last summer and had few complaints, none that weren't remedied when brought to Kathy's attention. Def worth checking out. They're trying to keep the legacy alive.

Milton....I remember coming to the Prop Stop back when you first opened it up. I remember your three legged German sherpard and how proud you were (and nice) about your business. I even hauled ice a couple of times for you. My name is David...I had a boat called Sea Note....you were the greatest host when we'd tie up and ask for shore power and you let Linn and I stay. Remember watching the snakes eat cat fish? God I miss those times. Milton you're a pioneer who made his dream come true. I love ya man.

I am looking to charter a boat to take 10-11 people from Metairie to the Prop Stop for a few hours and then back to Metairie. Needs to be a nice/fast boat with a good captain. I can be reached at 713-825-0508. Could possibly get a pick up in Manchac and use a party boat instead of fast vessel.
